The Lesson For Liberals

Drop Progressivism, reclaim liberal values

To those who feels betrayed by this election, maybe it is time for some deep reflection. The corrupt systems have made all of us feel betrayed for decades, so this is not without empathy. But instead of blaming the “other side” maybe self criticism is a better way to fix what you are feeling this time.

Let’s analyze.

First, liberalism used to mean free speech. Do you think allowing for an open and fair primary and debates would have gotten better results? This isn’t the only value that has changed though. Think about the principles that used to attract many people to the idea of liberal governance, from JFK to Occupy Wall Street. Where did those values go? The principles of anti-war, free speech, open debates, anti-corruption, anti-Wall Street, and error correction have all been tossed aside for the narrow and limited issues of abortion, gender, and “not Trump.” The mass migration of independent voters that used to consider your values their own abandoned ship when the party of unions and the working class started nominating the top recipients of Wall Street, started cheerleading for wars, and began secretly helping organize mass censorship online and in the mainstream media.

It also certainly didn’t help to sit idly by as P. Diddy’s guest list, Epstein’s client list, Hollywood elites, and the general attitude towards pedophilia, anti-family, and anti-health somehow became the prevailing culture.

These are all self inflicted wounds.

In his book What's Our Problem?, Tim Urban distinguishes between "liberalism" and "progressivism" as two distinct mindsets. He describes "liberalism" as a flexible, open-minded approach that values debate, reason, and a willingness to explore different viewpoints in the pursuit of truth and societal progress. It is a mindset wary of extreme ideologies.

Urban contrasts this with "progressivism," which he sees as a rigid mindset focused on achieving social justice goals, to the point of adopting a moral certainty that limits open debate. According to Urban, progressivism prioritizes ideological purity and dogma over the flexibility and tolerance for differing views that used to characterize liberalism.

Maybe it is time for those on the left to reconsider what they stand for, as this ideological switch has backfired and has betrayed the core meaning of what attracted people to the left to begin with.

As is most always the case, the solution starts with criticism. We all share a common problem: corrupt systems. That is the one thing we should unify against. Starting with food and medicine, and then moving on to media and government. It is a problem we all face.

Our computer has been hacked. It is fully corrupted. We can choose to fight forever over hot button issues. Or we can correctly identify the problem and fix the computer itself. No election can change that, it is up to us.

We do that by building new systems. One like THIS.
