Without Clear Definitions, Laws Are Meaningless.
All good contracts and systems start with clear definitions. This includes our social contracts and systems too. This is why Marxists and Tyrants love to blur them.
The first step to a cohesive society is crystal clear definitions. This is why tyrants love to blur definitions.
Definitions are fundamental because they create shared understanding. Without clear definitions, communication breaks down, misunderstandings arise, and people can be manipulated. Definitions establish a common reality and words represent concepts. If people use the same words but mean different things, they’re not truly communicating—they're just talking past each other. Precise definitions ensure that when we discuss ideas, we actually understand each other.
This is why good contracts start with definitions. For example, a contract that says "delivery must be made in a reasonable time" is open to interpretation. What is "reasonable"? A day? A week? A month? This vagueness invites conflict. That’s why good contracts define key terms upfront, ensuring all parties operate from the same understanding.
Our social contracts should be no different.
Recently an exchange between an English Professor and a writer unfolded, where the writer told the teacher that poor definitions for words cause a huge amount of division in our world. Saying:
”Blurring word definitions destabilizes humanity. Don’t believe me? Here is an exercise for you and your class. Define the following words:
1) capitalism
2) democracy
3) fascism
4) Nazi
5) assault rifle
6) human right
7) life
8) woman
9) science
10) Freedom
11) Equity
12) equality
13) equality of opportunity
14) racism
15) comedy
16) stereotypes
17) justice
18) socialism
19) violence
20) genocide
21) patriotism
22) insurrection
23) peaceful protest
24) violent protest
25) vaccine
26) fake news
27) diversity, equity and inclusion
28 Propaganda
29) Woke
30) Grooming
31) Censorship
32) Misinformation
33) Elitism
34) Rights
35) Privilege
36) Anarchy
37) Communism
38) Authoritarian
39) immigrant
40) illegal immigrant
And after you define these words, have the students agree to never misuse them again. You see the paradox, right? We need to have crystal clear definitions first, or the rest of society will be subject to word manipulation when it comes to rules, laws, and culture.”
The professor refused to do the exercise, and emotionally responded as if personally attacked.
All laws and rules set forth by government and culture should be built on clear definitions. If they are not then it is a bad system. When definitions are unclear or constantly shifting, it becomes easier to control narratives and pit people against each other. Orwell captured this idea in 1984 with Newspeak, where words were deliberately redefined or erased to limit thought. For example, if "freedom" can mean both "individual liberty" and "obedience to the state," then people who think they’re advocating for freedom may actually be arguing for oppression. Blurred language fuels division because people think they disagree when they actually don’t—or they think they agree when they actually don’t.
If we cannot ask English professors and their students to define words, then who should we ask?
Can we set our own definitions in a decentralized way? How would you define this list of words?

For over 3 billion years on this planet there were only single-celled organisms. Then one day they somehow learned to work together and make complex multi-celled creatures . Right now we are like those single-celled organisms. Our next evolution is finding how to work together, better… (like we wrote about here).

"Talking past each other" is a good description of what passes for communication today. Without squirmy meanings propaganda and politics would be pretty much up a creek. Also people would lose one of our favorite ways to verbally assault each other: the old assigning ugly, unintended meanings to what others say.
Redefinition and revisionism are common constructivist tactics in post modern critical theory.
Constructivists have to undermine the Realist and Liberalist premises used to craft governance policies and laws. This heretical approach erodes law and order and is pernicious to natural law, organized society, and the human condition. These actions are despicable and the classical equivalent of lying, cheating, and stealing. Constructivists justify these actions using a flexible value system that is sold to the masses using logical fallacies combined with cognitive bias, appeals to human emotions, and credentialed authorities.
