We Need To Call A Truce to The Culture War.

We all got played.

I learned this today:

The divisive culture war topics of today got ramped up by the corporate media shortly after the 2008 housing crash when we bailed out the banks. Before then, these hot button issues were relatively tampered in the media.

Oddly - right around the same time - factions of the left and right were finally agreeing on something. They found themselves with a common enemy - the crony billionaires. The left formed Occupy Wall Street. The right made the Ron Paul / Tea Party movements. They all took action (albeit different approaches by each faction).

By 2012 the left and right suddenly found themselves as allies in a war against the people who had the entire system hacked. All at once, the spotlight was on the cronies. And the cronies didn’t like that.

Suddenly - as if a Wall Street defense mechanism had been triggered - the media in massive concert started ramping up the hot button issues. Words like “racist” “homophobic” “transphobic” “white privilege” and more were increased thousands of times by the mainstream press and media outlets.

There is literal data on this.

And what happened? A culture war was ignited. It divided us. We stopped looking suspiciously at the people in charge of the systems, and instead we started looking at each other again as enemies.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street banks hired firms to come up with campaigns to smear the movements with slogans and identity politics and news article hit pieces and social media campaigns. It worked. The people started fighting each other instead of identifying and working on the real problem, together.

Sorry, we keep screaming it. The real problem can be boiled down to this:

THE SYSTEMS THAT GOVERN OVER OUR LIVES HAVE BEEN CORRUPTED BY PEOPLE WHO DON’T HAVE OUR BEST INTERESTS IN MIND.

If we are honest with ourselves there is a clear, simple, repeatable cause and effect that we can and should identify: The more we fight each other the less we pay attention to those who have corrupted our systems.

The Left and Right need to call a truce to the culture war.

Let’s stop all hot button issues for just long enough to fix this one problem together. All sides - cease fire. Before we resume fire let’s fix one thing together. It is one thing we should all agree on. Fixing the corrupt systems that govern over our lives.

Our systems can be fixed. Corruption can be stopped - or at the very least greatly improved upon. But not when we keep focusing on the wrong things.

So… Truce, my friends. Let’s rethink our strategy. What outcome do we want? How can we get there?
