comparing our elections to a WWE-style match is so accurate. I have never heard it put so plainly and so spot on!

Hard pass on Leviathan. Decentralization is key, and even a good Leviathan has, as its purpose, to rule. And ruling by nature is centralized, accumulates power, and becomes evil. Hobbes was wrong about human nature. We don't need him, nor his evil monster of the deep.

Rules are good. Rulers are not. A decentralized leviathan does not seek to rule. A perfect example is Bitcoin.

I still think it's a poor word choice though. Leviathan is by Hobbes's definition a ruler.

Thanks for clarifying; Thomas Hobbes' 1651 philosophical work. The biblical meaning is crocodile (sea wolf - Isaiah 27:1). Thus, Josh apparently means the Law Merchant's ruler.

Hmmmm ... 'rules are good'? At the abstract level, e.g. Wittgenstein's Ladder, Gödel's Incompleteness theorems, or even the Taoist "the more rules the country, the more evil the people" — I would say rules are amoral at best.

And at a more concrete and immediate level, in thinking of the difference between small, empathy-driven families and communities as opposed to rule-driven institutions of any size, I'd also say that rules are neither "good" nor "bad". Maybe closer to a provisional necessity which periodically needs to be trimmed.

As rules are an attractive tool to those who are genetically predisposed to be high in Cluster B / dark-triad personality traits (those who are either not capable of empathy or who weaponize it ... rules, their institutions, and the sociopaths who eventually game every system are destined to go the way of the Tower of Babel, and I don't think Bitcoin will be an exception. I guess timing is everything, and when, not if, Bitcoin becomes corrupt beyond redemption, it will be time to create a new, albeit temporary fix.

A forever war of mankind against its own worst nature.

OK, we agree on this point.

We disagree. There are tests you can do to prove this is wrong. Most of humanity would choose food over evil if they trust the systems.

Humanity needs fixing because it kowtows to some leviathan. The master-slave relationship must be eradicated.

It is so refreshing and hopeful to read your posts. Thanks for taking a stab at being part of the solution & encouraging all of us to join in. Best sentence I've read so far this year: "In the past five years the movement for transparency seems to be tilting in favor of the good people who want better systems for this world." If this path can be taken, what a wonderful world it could be.
